I have been making films for just over a decade, recording weddings, children's parties short films and music video. I started because I wanted a business, but I enjoy it and I've met some interesting and creative people. I have my own lights, green screen a bunch of cameras, including a Broadcast camera, mirrorless Sony a6500 and a session Go Pro. I also dabble with sound recording. Until recently the "Gear Fetish" was one of my vices, so I have a lot of equipment.
Here are a couple short films I made with Simon Gedney Phoenix. Interesting story about how we met. I sat next to a random guy at the Guerilla filmmakers masterclass. Chris Jones, the guy who runs the event got on stage and told everyone to introduce themselves to the person next to them. I said "Hi, I'm Reuben and I want to make martial arts films", to which he replied, "I'm Simon, and I'm a martial arts actor!". From then I was his DoP (director of photography) for a while. The film, Dirk Laser actually ended up having two DoP's. I shot the beginning and the end, as I wasn't available to shoot the entire film. I also gave him advice on how to use a green screen and chroma keying.
Dell Richardson is in a band called Osibisa. They were quite famous. Dell is a very Charismatic, interesting and creative guy. I didn't meet him through my camera work, he's actually my uncle. I highly doubt we would be as close, had it not been for my filmmaking. Here's one live gig at Ronnie Scotts, and a music video we made on a whim, just because we had a few spare hours.
I've made countless videos with Tommy Stoneberg. He likes to be super imposed onto things and his videos get quite trippy! He's a good guy to work for, because he always has a clear idea of what he wants and we always do something that's a bit left field. Here's a few videos from back when I used to shoot and edit his videos... before a guy came from nowhere and offered to edit his videos for free. That happens a lot these days. I've lost so many potential customers that way.
Tommy Stonebergs song "Anybody out there" is one of my favorite songs from Tommy. It was one of my first music videos so it's a little rough round the edges, but I still like it. At first we spent ages making videos, but then Tommy decided to make videos that were much more simple, like the "what's your name" video.
Here's a couple projects I done for myself. I did one of them as practice for animation, and the other one is a documentary about Pan Mill, which is close to where I was living at the time. I also made the sound tracks for these videos... not a lot of people know that. Years ago I got some video editing software. Sony Acid was bundled with it. I never really got into it but I did make a few beats. I'm glad I did, because I have been using them in my projects for years. Just so you know, Rogue cell media and Chiltern Videography is also me.
